Number Rule
Judges may disqualify any driver for reckless or unsafe operation (including intoxication). The official’s decision will be final on any point of controversy. Any disagreement will result in disqualification.
Drivers must remain seated at all times during pull.
All tractors must have 4 rubber tires with the exception of tractors manufactured with single front wheel. Dual wheels and 4 wheel drives are not allowed.
Tractors must have 1 light in the front and 1 light in the back. If not, after dark you will be fined $1.
Each driver is to have their own D-clevis or twisted clevis with a 4 inch hole bolted tightly to drawbar. The homemade hitch will be allowed if the hole is large enough that the hook hangs free and is not over 1 ½ inches at the back. The drawbar is measured at 20 inches at the point where the hook hooks onto the clevis.
Drawbars must be rigid and safe. Blocked and bolted as not to move up or down. Any driver that allows their drawbar to raise while pulling will be disqualified. Any hitch pulling off of hydraulics must be strapped. Revised March 2005.
If a clevis breaks during a pull, the distance will be measured and counted as a pull.
Weights must be securely fastened. If it is your turn to pull and you are in the lane and a weight falls off that hitch is disqualified. All weights must have a hanging point center of the axle or forward. No object, including bolts and weights, to exceed more than 30 inches from the most forward point of frame. No weights on the platform.
If a tractor dies and will not start that hitch is disqualified. No adding gas, jumping, etc. If a tractor gets locked in gear before the pull, they have 3 minutes to get it fixed before it is disqualified. If the tractor is stuck in gear after the pull automatic disqualified. Puller still has option to complete pull but it will still be recorded as a disqualified. Revised 2019.
Lanes will be 10 ft. per tractor where possible up to 200 ft. Width must be 15 feet wide. Revised 2010.
Where the lane markers are uneven, the first marker will be used as the end of the lane.
Anytime the sled has less than enough room for a full pull at the end of the lane, the sled will change direction. The judge will make that determination.
When a lane is shortened, the sled is to be pulled to the opposite end and returned to the new end.
If the sled is spotted for a second pull near the end of the lane with less than 15 ft. for a full pull, a rope will be stretched across the end of the lane. If the tractor’s back tires hit the rope, the pull is disqualified.
Pulling position will be determined by drawing a number. There will be separate drawing containers and signup sheets for each class. When drawing for more than 1 tractor in the same class, you must designate for which tractor you are drawing for each time. When driving more than 1 tractor per class a driver may not follow himself/herself at the start of the class. Secretary will draw a number from those that were drawn to determine who pulls first. Revised 2010.
The sled will be placed in the center of the lane at the beginning of the class. The judge will flip a coin to determine the direction of the first pull for that weekend. Revised 2010.
The sled will be weighted to 220% of the class to begin the first round. If the first 2 out of 3 tractors that make a 15 ft. full pull on the 1st or 2nd attempts at the current weight, more weight will be added, the class will start the next round with the first tractor. This will be continued until 2 out of the first 3 tractors to make 2 attempts do NOT make a 15 ft. full pulls. At this time the current round all tractors will have the opportunity to hook to this weight. 1000 lbs. will be added each time on the “little” sled and 2000 lbs. will be added each time on the “big” sled. The lanes must be drag if weight was added to the sled. If any of the first 3 tractors pass their 1st or 2nd attempts, then the next tractor to complete their attempts will be added to the 3 tractors of this rule. Revised 2024.
A tractor may not enter a class after the class has started. Revised 2010.
On the first pull, judges will decide the direction the sled will be pulled. The driver may take his/her first pull or pass the first pull and spot the sled anywhere (centered between the ropes) in the lane. If the first pull is taken, the driver as the option to spot the sled or pass his/her second pull wait for his/her next turn to hook. At that time he/she will have the opportunity to spot the sled.
After a tractor has pulled once they are not to go back across the scales except in the case of a broken drawbar or clevis having been replaced, not to reweigh.
Front wheels crossing over the rope or marker does not count as being out of the lane. If the rear wheels touch the rope, the distance is not counted. That hook is disqualified.
When backing to the sled you will be allowed to back only 2 times within 15 ft. of the sled. The third time will result in a disqualification.
Spotting the sled: When a driver stops the sled when spotting, it can only be moved 1 more time before it is hooked up.
The 3 Minute Rule: A driver has 3 minutes to get hooked after the previous puller is unhooked. After the whistle on the first hook, a driver has 1 minute to pick a spot tractor or pass. If the judge says 1 minute is up and the driver has not picked a spot tractor, it is considered a pass. A driver then has another 3 minutes to hook after the spot tractor unhooks.
If a tractor rears to an unsafe height it will be stopped and the distance pulled will be measured. If someone touches the front end that pull will be stopped and the distance pulled will be measured.
Safety bars are allowed.
Distances will be measured by pulling the tape measure out straight. Any excessive speed and/or horseplay by a driver that results in a broken tape measure, that driver will be responsible for replacing the broken tape measure.
Doubling/Tripling: 0-7 entries, the class maybe tripled. 8-12 entries, the class maybe doubled. 13+ entries, no doubling or tripling will be allowed. Doubles and triples pull in the position they draw. Revised 2010.
A woman may pull a tractor that is already entered in the class. They are not considered a double.
Fulltime students may pull their any tractor that is already entered in a class. They, too, are not considered a double. Fulltime students are only allowed to pull 1 tractor other than their own. Revised 2010.
Age requirement: The minimum age is 14 years old. A parent or guardian must be present for those age 14 to 18 years old. The parent or guardian must sign a release form for each class at every pull.
Pullers over 14 years of age and have 1 year of experience in the E.I.D.T.P.A. may pull without their parent or guardian present if the parent or guardian signs a release on the entry form each week.
A driver must have a membership card to pull in any of the pulls. Membership cards require a $30 donation. Associate memberships are available for 1 weekend for a $5 donation. A membership card for the upcoming season is also required to vote on any rule changes during the Annual March meeting. Membership cards are discounted to $25 when purchased at the March meeting. Revised 2010.
Entry fee will be $5. Entry fees are to be paid at the time of sign up. Payback on the first 6 places will be as follows regardless of the number of entries in the class: $5-$5-$5-$5-$5-$5. Payback will be limited to one-third of class or 6 places whichever is less. Revised 2009.
Points awards: Points will be awarded to the driver and tractor for the first six places at all pulls except for the District Pull (final pull of the season) as follows: 10-8-6-4-2-1. A driver may win a point trophy in more than 1 class. If there is a tie for a point trophy, there will be a pull off to determine the winner. Each driver will have 2 pulls. They will draw to see who will go 1st on the first pull and reverse the order for the 2nd pull. The 2 distances are added together to determine the winner. The lane will be dragged and the sled will be placed in the middle of the lane. The sled must be spotted for each hook and be moved a minimum of 15 feet for each hook. Should a driver be unable to attend the pull off, he/she may designate a driver to pull his/her qualified tractor in the pull off.
Tractors placing for awards and points will be required to reweigh and have their drawbars measured. Tractors must weigh back as they were pulled.
Any irregularities not completely covered by the rules must be cleared by the judge, a member of the safety committee, and the president of the association.
Safety Committee: The Safety committee shall include the association’s officers (President, Vice President, Secretary, Treasurer, and IT Coordinator) and 5 elected members. Current members elected in 2023 are as follows: Dave Angle, Larry Johnson, Mike Mastin, Bruce Logan, and Doug Harpring
Pulling strictly begins at 9:00 AM with the first set of classes. The next set of classes will begin 30 minutes after the conclusion of the last class of the previous set. The secretary will keep time.
The secretary will be paid $65 per pulling week to maintain points records, handle sign ups, and announce line ups and distances. Spot tractors will share $150 per pulling weekend. Land rent is currently being paid at $100 per pulling weekend.

The E.I.D.T.P.A. season typically kicks off with an annual spring meeting generally held in mid March, usually the 2nd or 3rd Wednesday of the month. Prior year’s members of E.I.D.T.P.A. and other interested persons will be notified by mail of this meeting. Our pulling season typically kicks off during the middle of July after wheat harvest, generally the 3rd Saturday of the month and usually lasts for 8 consecutive Saturdays. Pulling usually begins at 9:00 AM and is generally over by 9:00 PM weather permitting. The schedule and location of the pulls are determined at the March meeting. The season concludes with a family pitch in dinner and awards banquet usually the next Saturday following the District Pull. This date is set during the pulling season.
